Shaker Style Maple Dining Chair

The Shaker Style Maple Dining Chair is a celebration of honesty, utility, and craftsmanship – principles of the Shaker religious community who believed that beauty arises from function. This chair is made entirely from solid hard maple (Acer saccharum), one of the hardest and most durable domestic hardwoods. Maple is so dense that it resists dents and scratches better than oak or cherry. The chair features classic Shaker design elements: turned front legs, slightly tapered rear legs (which lean back for stability), a ‘ladder back’ consisting of four horizontal slats, and a woven seat. However, this version substitutes the traditional woven seat with a solid, smoothly sanded maple seat for easier maintenance and lower cost. The seat is contoured with a shallow depression and rounded front edge. The wood is finished with a clear, matte water-based polyurethane that protects without altering the natural blonde color of maple. All joinery is mortise-and-tenon, reinforced with wooden pegs (visible on the back slats). No metal fasteners are used except for the floor glides (felt). The chair is light (4.5 kg) but incredibly strong – it can support up to 150 kg. Dimensions: 45 cm width x 48 cm depth x 86 cm height, seat height 45 cm. The chair stacks up to 4 high. Assembly: fully assembled. Each chair is stamped with a ‘Shaker-style’ mark on the underside. Care: wipe with damp cloth; do not use abrasive cleaners.
