Every piece of wood used in this chair is true reclaimed teak – salvaged from old Indonesian houses, railway sleepers, and fishing boats that were decommissioned. The result is a material with unique character marks: small nail holes, natural cracks (stabilized with epoxy), and a rich, weathered patina that cannot be artificially replicated. The frame is constructed with mortise-and-tenon joinery, reinforced with teak dowels – no metal fasteners (except for the legs’ floor glides). The seat is not solid wood; instead, it is handwoven with natural jute rope (Corchorus capsularis) in a geometric diamond pattern. Jute is a biodegradable, renewable bast fiber with good tensile strength and a soft, golden-brown color. Each chair takes an artisan about 8 hours to weave. The jute rope has a diameter of 10 mm and is woven over a subframe of reclaimed teak slats. The chair includes a removable seat cushion (5 cm thick, high-density foam) covered in natural, undyed cotton canvas (unbleached, organic).
