The Adirondack Style Outdoor Lounge Chair is an American classic, originally designed in the early 1900s for the rugged terrain of the Adirondack Mountains. This version stays true to the original design while using superior materials: solid cypress wood (Taxodium distichum). Cypress is a naturally rot-resistant, insect-repelling softwood that thrives in wet environments, making it ideal for outdoor furniture without chemical treatments. The chair features the hallmark Adirondack elements: a high, slatted back (7 slats) that leans at a 100° angle, a deep contoured seat (3 slats) that slopes downward by 15°, and wide, flat armrests (8 cm wide) that can hold a plate, book, or drink. The armrests are at a comfortable 62 cm from the ground. The chair is constructed with stainless steel screws (grade 316) for assembly; no glue is used so that the wood can expand and contract with weather. The cypress is left unfinished – it will naturally weather to a silver-gray patina over 12-18 months. You may choose to apply a clear sealer or semi-transparent stain to retain the golden-brown color.
