Barrel Back Accent Armchair

The Barrel Back Accent Armchair takes its name from the semi-circular, ‘barrel’ shape of its backrest, which wraps around your torso to create a sense of intimacy and security. The frame is crafted from solid American ash (Fraxinus americana), a hardwood with exceptional shock resistance and prominent, attractive grain. The ash is finished with a clear, matte water-based polyurethane that preserves its pale, creamy color. The backrest is constructed by steam-bending multiple thin layers of ash veneer into a half-cylinder shape, then laminating them under pressure – the same technique used to make classic barrel chairs of the 1950s. The inside of the barrel is padded with 5 cm of convoluted (egg-crate) foam for breathability, then upholstered. The seat cushion is separate and removable; it is 12 cm thick, with a pocket spring core (120 individually wrapped springs) surrounded by high-resilience foam and a layer of down alternative (polyester). The upholstery fabric is a performance velvet (100% polyester, 400 gsm) in a deep moss green color. This velvet is inherently stain-resistant due to its tight weave and low pile, and it has a Martindale rating of 75,000 cycles. The fabric is also treated with a water-repellent finish. Splayed, angled legs (solid ash with same clear finish) are set at 15° and terminate in brass-colored metal feet (zinc alloy).
